State Deputy Dave Helmstetter
Dave Helmstetter, State Deputy, Ohio State Council, Knights of Columbus
Leading up to his election, Dave has served the Knights of Columbus and the Ohio State Council in many different positions and capacities. During his time as State Secretary, he successfully guided the Ohio State Council to a record Pennies for Heaven campaign with more than $96,000 dollars collected.
As State Warden, he chaired a record-setting Measure Up Campaign when more than $472,000 was raised to help citizens with mental retardation. Then, as State Advocate, he guided Ohio councils to a then record campaign when chairing the annual Matching Funds Campaign which supports Catholic religious education.
Dave served as State Membership Director under Past State Deputy and former Vice Supreme Master Al Hickey and State Church Director under Past State Deputy and former Vice Supreme Master Baci Carpico. Under then State Deputy John Welch, he was Membership Retention Director and played a part in helping Ohio attain its lowest suspension rate in more than 20 years. He has also worked in a variety of diocesan positions and served four terms as District Deputy.
At the local level, Dave served four terms as Grand Knight of St. Marys Council 1592 and a term as Faithful Navigator in the Fourth Degree with St. Gaspar del Bufalo Assembly, Minster. Dave also has been active in ceremonials, working on Third Degree teams for 14 years and currently on his council’s First Degree team as Deputy Grand Knight.
Professionally, Dave received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Journalism from Bowling Green State University in 1978. For more than 26 years, he has worked in Marketing Communications with Crown Equipment Corporation at the company’s headquarters in New Bremen, Ohio. He is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). The Dayton and Greater Cincinnati IABC Chapters awarded him a 2010 Bronze Quill Award of Excellence for a search engine marketing project.
Dave and his wife, Cinda, have four sons and a daughter, ranging in age from 21 to 30. They also have three grandchildren. The Helmstetters reside on the family farm near St. Marys and are active members of Holy Rosary Parish. Dave serves as a lector and usher while Cinda sings in the parish choir. Dave also has also served two terms as parish council president, chaired the parish’s 150th anniversary celebration, and worked on the parish festival’s advertising committee for more than 30 years. In the community, Dave served on both the St. Marys and Auglaize County United Way boards as president.
